What goes into a FORTH website?
The design decisions, connected systems and ongoing care behind a website built for your business.
A business website has an important job to do. It needs to explain what you offer, give people confidence in your business and make the next step easy.
Getting that right takes an understanding of the business, considered design and technology that works together. Keeping it useful takes continued attention as your services, customers and priorities change.
At FORTH, we bring those responsibilities into one managed service. From the first conversation through to the next update, our role is to handle the work behind the website so you can focus on your business.
Here is what that involves.

Understanding what your business needs
Before choosing a layout, we work out what the website should achieve.
Who are you trying to reach? Which services matter most? What do customers need to know before they contact you? Are you looking for bookings, product enquiries or projects that better suit your team?
Those answers influence the pages, the content and the route visitors take through the website. An arborist needs to make services and coverage clear. An accommodation business needs to help guests picture their stay and plan a visit. A supplier may need an organised product catalogue and a way to find local stockists.
The useful decisions happen before the visual details: what deserves attention, what needs explaining and what should happen next.
Giving your business a distinct presence
Design helps people recognise your business and understand what it offers.
We consider typography, colour, imagery, spacing and movement together. The aim is a website that feels appropriate for your business and makes its information easy to use.
A strong opening image should lead naturally into useful content. A service page should answer the questions that matter before asking someone to enquire. Contact details and booking options should appear where visitors need them.
We also consider how the experience changes on a phone. Text needs to remain readable, navigation needs to be clear and interactions need to work with touch. These details influence how comfortable people feel using the website.
Connecting the systems behind the screen
The visible pages are supported by systems for publishing, hosting, domains, data and measurement.
Our development stack includes Next.js and JavaScript, with GitHub supporting code history and Vercel supporting publishing and hosting. Cloudflare, Supabase and Umami provide additional infrastructure, data and analytics capabilities where relevant to the project.
Choosing and connecting those capabilities is part of the work. The client benefit is practical: enquiries going to the right place, information appearing where it belongs and a clear process for publishing approved changes.
Consider a stockist finder. Its usefulness depends on accurate records, clear locations and a straightforward way for a customer to find a nearby supplier. A booking integration needs to connect visitors to the right service and booking destination. A product catalogue needs consistent information and navigation that helps people find an item.
Each feature has to make sense within the wider website.
Reviewing the details before publishing
A completed layout needs to be reviewed in use.
That includes checking content, following links, reviewing forms and looking at the experience across relevant screen sizes and browsers. Image sizes, readable text and clear navigation deserve attention alongside the bigger design decisions.
The same care applies to search foundations. Page titles, descriptions, internal links and crawlable content help explain the website to search engines. Applying those tools to the right pages is part of preparing a useful business website.
You also have a role in reviewing the result. You know your business, customers and services, so your feedback helps confirm the website represents them accurately before launch.
Keeping the website current
After launch, the website needs to keep pace with the business.
Services expand, photographs improve and new opportunities appear. A managed service gives those changes somewhere to go, with people responsible for preparing and publishing the work.
Through the FORTH portal, you submit a request, we confirm the scope and prepare the update, and you review a preview before it goes live. That gives you a clear way to make changes without having to learn a website editor or coordinate the technical steps yourself.
Behind each request, we consider how the update fits the existing website and which other pages or features it may affect. Ongoing care includes keeping that wider picture in view.
Using information to guide improvements
Analytics can help show where visitors come from, which pages they use and how they interact with the website.
The useful questions are specific. Are people finding the service you want to promote? Are they reaching the contact page? Are configured enquiry actions being recorded?
We use Umami for website analytics and OpenSEO within our search workflow. The tools provide information that supports investigation and decisions about what to improve.
Tracking needs to reflect what it actually measures. A visit, a phone link click and a submitted enquiry are different actions. Dedicated search growth and advertising work are handled through the relevant additional plans.
Better tools support a considered process
We use modern development tools, automation and AI assistance within our workflow to support tasks such as exploring ideas, drafting content and developing code. Our team directs the work, reviews the output and takes responsibility for what we deliver.
This helps us work efficiently while keeping the business requirements and the finished experience at the centre of the process.
What we take care of for you
A FORTH website brings together the original design and build, the systems supporting it and the ongoing involvement needed to keep it current.
You have a process for requesting changes, an opportunity to review the work and people you can contact when something needs attention.
Our experience and judgement connect those parts. The result is a website service built around your business, with FORTH looking after the details behind it.
